Taking part in the chemical process which creates the products that we make. This may contain engineering tasks such as repairing pumps or we may be adding chemicals to the process as part of the recipe. We also have to do a lot of problem solving as there are many issues that arise daily
I have learnt a lot of new skills whilst in my apprenticeship that are applicable to my job as it is very specific and there isn’t really anywhere else where you could get experience in the field.I have also developed a lot of new personal skills in my time
I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship on a day to day basis. Each day we are met with new problems that have to be overcome in order to return the plant to standard running. I also enjoy the people that I work right and the relationships that get built up on site.
The program is fairly well structured and is all aimed at getting you through gateway on time. I think the company has overcome the struggles of covid-19 fairly well in helping the apprentices. I feel like there could be some improvement on the NVQ side of things but this is more based towards the external assessors rather than the company.
As an apprentice you receive a lot of support from your employers, especially your line manager and the people you work with on a day to day basis. You also receive a lot of support from former apprentices as they know what you are going through and are able to help whenever they can.
In regards to the city and guilds diploma I feel like I receive lots of support from the tutors who are very knowledgeable and have plenty of experience working in the industry which always helps. However, I feel like the NVQ side of things could be better as there isn’t much support from there side at all really.
I feel like the diploma is useful as it gives me a wide knowledge range in the field that I’m working in and provides me with more knowledge in some areas than I would get at work. However, I feel like the NVQ doesn’t really help me become better in my job role and could do with a revamp of the structure.
There are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved in at work. Whether these be golf days or 5 a side teams. There are also lots of social events that take place which help improve the relationships you will make on site. These events also allow you to network with people who you wouldn’t usually work with on site which is a very good thing.
Yes
I would definitely recommend Solenis to a friend as it is a great place to work and the people you work with are great. Not only will it give you skills you won’t have but it will also massively help your social side with the amount of social events that take place.
To work at Solenis I would say you need to be confident and open to meeting lots of new people. You also need to be good at problem solving as this will be a regular occurrence. Overall just show confidence in your interview and no arrogance and you should be just fine.
