  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I do a variety of different jobs every day. Some days I will be working in the chilled or grocery sections packing out stock and other days I will be serving customers on the till. Every Monday I also do chilled date checking to ensure that products are put onto date alerter correctly. I am also a team leader so that means that I undertake some management duties as well.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned more about what responsibilities employers and employees have in retail. This has helped me become a better team leader in particular. I have also gained a better insight into how other retailers work so that I can compare that to our business to help voice ideas to improve

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy doing this programme as I have gained a lot more knowledge that I can transfer onto the shop floor. I always like to learn new things as for me it keeps my job interesting and it always challenges me to strive to be my best and to do more

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I find the programme to be very well structured as it is broken down well into 12 smaller and more manageable modules and because you have 12 months to complete the programme it means that you have an aim for one a month so it makes sure that it isn't too overwhelming

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive quite a lot of support from my employer. The company has taken the time and money to invest in the development of its employees. My manager has also always offered me support and help where needed especially if I need to swap some shifts around for meetings and the final exams

  • 9a. Would you recommend Iceland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are a very fair employer with a large amount of employee perks such as staff discount both in store and in other retailers through a third party website. The store that I work in is also very friendly which creates the best atmosphere that you want to work in

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Iceland?
  • The biggest piece of advice that I would give to somebody applying to iceland is that you will get out as much as you put in whilst working there, for example there are always chances for progression if you show willingness to learn more and put the team and effort in
