Processing external payrolls, admin type work, updating spreadsheets, uploading pensions and payslips, pension declarations.
How to process payrolls, I had no knowledge of this before I started. I have gained qualifications on Sage Payroll. Everything I know about payroll and pay I have learnt here.
I enjoy learning so it is quite enjoyable for me. My work does not have much to do with my apprenticeship so they are quite separate and no one else in my office is on the apprenticeship with me so it can be quite lonely.
We have formal reviews quite frequently so there is a lot of support from my tutor. My tutor lets me pick the module we learn and understands that I like to keep the course very structured so I know what I have not yet learnt and what I can revise.
My manager does not involve themselves with my apprenticeship, so does not attend the formal reviews, however the Payroll Group Leader does. My manager occasionally asks how I am getting on. I am often quiet at work so they are happy for me to do a lot of my apprenticeship.
My tutor sets up teams calls with me whenever I ask for them, however we often arrange a call every three to four weeks. During these calls we go through anything I am struggling on and we go through a trickier module together. I can always email for help too.
I have learnt how to process payroll with my employer, but I have learnt why we do what we do and implications etc with my tutor. I have gained a deeper understanding of payroll, as well as manual calculations and legislation.
Not since I have worked there due to covid.
