My role is an Apprentice Internal Auditor. I am allocated audits in which I usually work supervised, by a Senior Auditor. I carry out the audits under supervision from start to finish, this includes meeting with clients, gathering and analysing data and report writing.
I have developed a lot of IT skills and report writing and communication skills. I have also acquired many new skills in data analysis and using audit software.
I have really enjoyed the experience, I have been very lucky to have a supportive team at NCC and tutors at MBKB. I have settled in really well with the company and team and learnt a great deal about local authorities and the profession of internal audit, skills and behaviours that the role entails.
The programme has been well organised, we have been through all modules with our MBKB tutors, whilst also attending courses with the IIA. Leading up to an IAP course with the IIA and exam. Then on to gateway and end point assessment. The only constructive feedback I would give is that at points we were unclear of timescales, so it would be good to have had this set out from the beginning of the course.
A great deal of support is received from my employer. I am lucky to have a supportive team to work with and learn from and my line manager is always supportive and more than happy to accommodate any learning needs or development areas. This helps me to ensure I have a breadth of experience to assist in my studies and CPE journal entries.
We have monthly sessions, these were going through modules at first, now these are complete so we have catch up sessions. Whilst going through the IAP course with the IIA, we discussed this together. My tutor is always happy to support and answer any questions and further explore any development needs.
Very much so, it is a great experience to work and learn at the same time. I am able to relate my studies to my work and put this all into practice. The IIA courses really helped with this.
Not that I am aware of. there have been pre COVID.

The organisation reflects a very positive working environment. The people in the organisation have always been pleasant and welcoming and it seems somewhere people tend to stay for a very long time. An excellent pension scheme is offered and employees are well paid for their roles. I feel very valued and receive positive messages of encouragement and thanks from higher management.
Make sure to research the organisation, read through the council plan and its objective. Think about how the role that you are applying for, helps to achieve these objectives. Study the person spec and consider your skills and experience and how you meet the criteria.
