My role day to day may vary as I currently learn an number of different elements to the industry. As an apprentice my days rotate between learning/reading university material to then being on site with my mentor to gain hands on experience with MEP services as well as build relationships with clients and contractors.
I have learnt a tonne of new skills since starting especially with how MEP systems work and why we maintain them to the standard we do such as CIBSE for not only life cycle reasons but H&S, financial reasons to. I have also been able to develop my communication skills with understanding how to build a rapport with clients and trust that they can count on us to provide the best support possible. I have recently completed an Auditor training course within LK which was very beneficial and allowed me to view how we conduct our audits in the future.
I have been very fortunate on my programme and have thoroughly enjoyed it so far. I have to say a huge thank you not only to the company but the people within, [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has been excellent and we get on very well and is an integral part of my journey and to why I have enjoyed it so much.
TB+A have been known for their top quality apprenticeship scheme and I can only back this up as since day one there has been a plan in place for me with not only an induction to meet the team but to inform me of what to expect. We have regular reviews to push me on and improve which helps me feel more involved and important which as an apprentice is encouraging.
The support I get from my business unit is exceptional, I feel comfortable in contacting anyone within the unit and confident that they are always willing to help me if a problem occurs. Everyone I have met so far wants me to improve and will always take time out of their day to run through something that I do not understand.
LSBU is ok with support, as an apprentice it can be challenging to being able to be available as projects are a priority for development. There was some confusion due to the pandemic with timetabling and revision with LSBU not understanding that our class may not be available on any other day than our designated release day.
It has helped me understand how systems are created and to why they are the size they are. Learning at LSBU with working at TB+A as I can immediately link what I have learnt to real life examples which help me remember in the long run. I have become more confident at LSBU with on site experience.
Their are a lot of social activities within the business that are offered to us which is always beneficial as it allows apprentices to understand a more personal side of our colleagues and clients which is more helpful than people may realise. A social activity every quarter for our department is a great way of not only meeting colleagues we do not regularly see but to celebrate everything we have achieved so far.
Yes
I would highly recommend this company due to the high level of knowledge and expertise my colleagues have and that they also want to better everyone around them. People want to bring young people up and are keen to pass on any knowledge which is highly encouraging and beneficial. They constantly push you in a way that is not overbearing and are always happy to see you succeed whether it is a big or small accomplishment.
You do not need to put pressure on yourself within the industry. No one is expect to know everything in building services at a young age. The people want to help and any questions that you have will be answered, the process is always smooth and opportunities given to me since onboarding have been fantastic and this is only the start.
