Subcontractor management of packages on site. Assessing appllciactions for payment and issuing payment notices. Generally ensuring that the subcontractor is happy and working safely on site. This also involves high level communication between myself and the subcontractior. I have also began in communicating with the client where my manager sees fit.
Developed skills in excel to a high degree. Developed knowledge of civil engineering through communication with the on site engineers and my team. Further management of people and resources to be able to help deliver works on a day to day basis. Presentation skills in the form of commercial meetings.
I am enjoying the experience however I feel as though it could be a shorter course to the same effect.I undertand however that this course is defined by the univeristy as opposed to Kier group as an individual. I would also be intrested in diversifying the programme by seeing new roles.
Very well organised and structured comparing especially to the college course I had to complete to gain entry onto the course. By comparison, my college course was very random in deadline dates and assignment work. The uni course is consistent and upfront about essays and reports to be handed in
My support is very high as my team communicate effectively both on site and whilst working from home. We have performance reiviews every 6 months as well as regular chats with managers and the senior leadership team. This helps me in understanding new concepts and ensuring I am operating to a high degree.
High support, this includes 1 full day away from work per week and flexibility in working hours around deadlines which is now based on a monday. When deadlines approach my manager allows me time where neccessary to complete essays etc. I believe in the future they will maintain this relationship
I beleive it gives me a great background of knowledge and diversifies my experience into different roles. Comparing to my college course, this course is much better as it is more direct and relevant to my day to day tasks. The law module for example was great in aiding me with contract work.
Social activities yes, sports no, professional events no. We regulary have social events for chistmas or where colleagues are leaving etc. I am based off site so sporting events arent really accessible for me. I am also not aware of networking events other than the occasional teams invite to some wider meetings.
Yes
Great for early careers, especially for school leavers to look into as opposed to going down the traditional route of a 3 year university course. This also allows the indivdual to earn a living wage very quickly and build experience aiding into career development once the qualification is acheived after 5 years.
Worth the time investment if you are willing to wait for the full 5 years, or even 7 years if the individual is first completing the 2 year college course. I would advise them to make sure they are confident with their decision as it is a big time and energy commitment.
