My role at iceland is to work with my colleagues to ensure that the customers have a great experience in and around the store. This can involve picking online orders for customers to the best of my ability or even just putting out the maximum amount of stock I can in my shift.
I have learnt many new skills whilst working at iceland in the past 2 years. This includes training to work on the till and learning how to correctly stock the shelves and freezers. I am also training to become a manager and this will help me in the future as well as whilst I am at Iceland.
I do enjoy my programme a lot, meeting new people and learning new skills is always something i've enjoyed doing. Having a meeting on a semi-regular schedule means that I can structure my time efficiently. I can work 40 hour weeks whilst also having time to complete my coursework.
My programme is fairly well structured. As the time has gone on the meetings have become more loose but that is due to the fact that I have been completing all of the work on schedule. There has always been a set date that we have a meeting and all work to be done during that time is completed efficiently.
I do have to fight sometimes to make the time to be able to complete certain parts of my apprenticeship. I understand that people are busy but I do think that if they are having to pay for me to be on a apprenticeship then they should put more effort in.
My training provider has been very helpful whilst i've been doing my apprenticeship. They are there at virtually every hour of the day if I have any questions or problems. They also do offer to contact my employer if i do need any help in store with the training.
I feel that certain aspects of the qualification help me in store, especially whilst I am talking to the customers. Being able to identify what type of customer they are and the way they would like to be spoken to really does help both my reputation and the store's reputation.
There doesn't really seem to be any extra-curricular activities that can be done whilst at work or outside of work. We do have the occasional meal as a team but not a lot else is done whilst at work. We don't really have many locations near our store to be able to have work activities.
Yes
I would recommend iceland to a friend because of the oppurtuinities within the company to move up in rank. The competitive rate of pay for young people is also a quality that is very appealing. They do have a scheme called refer a friend which does make it much easier for them to get a job.
I would tell people applying for Iceland to be very honest with the employer themselves. In retail it is very important to have great people skills and the employer is not going to be able to see you have them unless you are very casual whilst you have your interview.
