i work as a cost consultant degree apprentice, my day to day duties are, measuring large scale residential units and putting together a cost plan for the client, i use there different systems such as BIM measure and causeway to put together the cost plan
i have developed new skills such as being able to network as we arrange to meet people on our team and meet new people working in different sectors and this has increased my confidence, i have also gained skills using excel and other programmes used to put together a cost plan
i thoroughly enjoy my program, when i firs started at mace i was in construction management and i was sure the role didn't suit my skill set so i raised this issue to the emerging talent team and they had me moved to a role i now enjoy
my program me is very structured, we have meetings monthly to make sure i am on track with my competency portfolio, i also have meeting 2 times a day with my line manager talking through my daily tasks and making sure i understand the task
i receive great support, if i ever have any questions i can contact the emerging talent team and they provide me with immediate answers, my line manager is also very supportive making sure i am able to grow in my role and understand every aspect
i receive allot of support as when i fist joined uni they arranged a call talking me through the uni course and what is needed to complete the course
as being a client QS i am not aware to some of the main construction works that go on on site, but being at uni allows me to understand the technical construction that goes on site
we have in person training regularly and majority of the time after this training we take part in networking events after when people from high up in the company come and we are able to ask them questions etc and owners of the subcontractors so we are able to talk to people outside of mace also
