I currently work on a project for a government body, developing an Oracle Business intelligence solution.
I have had some training in SQL, Java, Oracle Business Intelligence 11g, for me this was built on top of previous programming experience, but so far have all been new languages. But I'm continuing to develop my skills with oracle products as this is the area I will be working in.
The program is a great balance of work and learning, you are given the oportunity to push yourself and be very independant which is a great way for me to work and get my degree!
Capgemini are keen to see us progress and proove ourselves, the content of the programme is constantly under review to ensure we are getting the best education whilst working and to ensure we have a good work/life balance.
The programme format will work well I feel and (as has been the case already) the opinions of the apprentices has the power to dramatically shape the programme for the better.
Our current training provider for the apprenticship part of our programme currently struggles to meet the needs of such a rapidly growing, and nationaly mobile scheme. But all these issues are being dealt with surprisingly quickly.
Each apprentice has a reviewer within the company, who has the role of supporting you in promotions and in a slightly pastoral role to make sure you are getting the right projects. Personally I have very regular contact with my reviewer and he has taken a very active role in helping me shape my future.
For an apprenticeship the salary is rather good, and as the work is project based, most of the time you are covered by the expenses policy, so my own personal costs are down to a bare minimum.
The projects you work on all form their own communities while they run, you always have the chance to go out and explore the city you'll be working in and make new opportunities.
Yes
The pay package and programme are a great way to gain your degree, working for a company that has a great amount of investment in your future.
I just turned up and told them about myself, seemed to work.
