At the moment, I am on off the job training, and I am studying a Computer Science Degree. Throughout the week i partake in a variety of many different excercise, whether it be lab excersises, lectures or tutorials, which provide me a really great insight into the world of tech.
Throughout my time so far at the University of BIrmingham, I have gained many different skills, for example: I have become rather good at coding in Java (before I could only code in Python). I have also learnt a lot about how Machine Learning works (both supervised and Unsupervised learning)
I greatly enjoy my programme, both from my University and Company. At University I am able to learn about the things I have a great passion for, such as AI, Theories of Computation and much more. My company also provide weekly skills session which i really enjoy, as it is getting me ready for my placement.
My programme is very well structured : at University I have a set amount of organised lectures labs and tutorials which occur on a weekly basis. With my company it is also very well structured as their are weekly professional skills or engagement sessions which are very helpful at getting an insight to the field of work.
I receive a lot of support from my employer as , for starters, their are weekly sessions which help us in getting an insight to the working world as well as help us learn about the skills needed in the workplace. I also have personal tutors who I can go to if I need any help.
From University I receive a lot of support when it comes to either help with work or even general help. I have the opportunity to either visit my lecturers at their office if i need help or I can ask my tutor for help during my weekly tutor group sessions.
I have not yet started my placement so I cannot give a full answer on how what I am learning will help me perform better in my role, however from what I have seen from my engagement sessions I can see that the content I am learning will most definitely aid me in my future roll.
Yes, their are a lot of social events. The most recent one was a Christmas party which was funded by the company. There was also a AGM event near the start of the year which was also a lot of fun as I met up with people who have a lot more experience in the field I wish to study.
Yes
PWC is a company that not only makes you feel welcome, but also helps you a lot throughout your training. Even though, most of my time is spent at University I still feel very connected to the company due to their weekly help sessions and all of their social events.
I would tell them to research the company values and see if the values of the company as a whole aligns with their own personal values that they hold. I would also tell them to research about what the company has done to uphold the values that the company has.
