Assisting with the compilation of tender documents. Attending site to assist with the monthly valuation processes then pulling together documents to send to the Project Manager. Reviewing costs/ quotations from contractors to substantiate their validity. Joining design team meetings to see how the design will change and the cost implications to this. Calculating feasibility studies taking into account bench- marking, inflation and risk allowances.
Time management skills are required to manage deadlines and work load across your different projects. IT skills are developing with each new software I use such as BIM.
I am enjoying the programme and the variety of training provided to develop my skills.
The programme is well structured in terms of internal apprenticeship training/ uni training. There are many support systems to track development and ensure you are continually progressing.
I have always felt supported by my line manager and other seniors that I work with. If I felt that I had an issue with anything there would always be someone I would feel comfortable raising this with.
Uni lecturers are always available and make it known that they are contactable should you need any help. There are also Link Tutors who are a representative from the university that have regular reviews with to talk about progression and any concerns.
The information at university is sometimes dated and can feel irrelevant however it gives a good basis of understanding and context to the wider role of the QS and how it has developed over time.
There are plenty of networking groups within Mace for all types of backgrounds and interests to get involved with should you wish.
