  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a plant operator working at a power station. I am responsible for the day to day running of plant as well as monitoring equipment and raising any defects for items needing repair. It involves working closely with other teams within the business. I currently have an on going project which will help improve one of our current systems in place. I have many daily tasks to do when on site which mainly involves plant checks and then react to any emergency issues that may arise throughout the day.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt some new skills whilst doing the team leader course, It has made me become more aware of how to deal/speak to people in the correct manner. I have also learnt how to become better at time management through out the course to ensure my work is completed n time. I find that the subjects fit well for my personal progression of working towards becoming a team leader.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I do enjoy the programme quite a bit, there are times where I feel it has become a bit of a burden but then I reflect and remember why I wanted to complete the course. I find the majority of the course interesting and can relate some past experiences into it and find I can improve my current knowledge of how I thought things should be done. It has given my views on how to work well as a team a new outlook, and it's also given me a chance to think of how i would like to manage people in the future.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My tutor is very good at organising my workload. Each month i have a review and i am expected to hand in some work that keeps my progress on target. I have personal work targets I want to meet each month so that also helps keeps my progression going well. I found from the start of the apprenticeship, it has all ran smoothly. I manage my time well to ensure I have enough time to complete my modules.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive enough support from my manager. He allows me the time to complete my work, ?I have arrangements in place so I can do some on my days off. He helps me with certain elements of the modules which require some input from him to feedback on my progress. I feel fully supported by him. I don't have much involvement with anyone else in the business regarding the apprenticeship. It's managed more by myself as I am responsible for making sure I complete it in time and with the highest grades achievable.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my mentor if I need it. They regularly check in to make sure I'm ok and I'm progressing well with my work. I have full access to all the support networks they offer and I have bene made aware of how to use them if I ever need to. I never have any issues with the support I receive, It's always useful and practical feedback which I benefit from.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification will help me if a position ever comes up to become a team leader. I think it has given me a broader knowledge of how to use different methods and techniques on managing a team. It has helped me more recently as I have a project to do at work, and by communicating with different companies and delegating tasks out, the course has taught me how to do that in the correct method and manner.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There isn't many activities through work that I can attend due to my working pattern. There are workshops that happen which you can go and network at but majority of the time these happen when I am on shift and cannot attend or on m days off so it is quite limiting. When I'm not working I focus on my fitness which includes going to the gym or running. I find it helps clear my mind and relaxes me which in turn helps me focus when it comes to doing my work.

  • 9a. Would you recommend E.ON to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • They are generally a good company to work for, where I am based it's more about engineering and intensive work which I find interesting. The have a lot of support if you need it and I find most people I interact with are very supportive and can offer time to help you with issues. The offer good incentives and treat people well.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to E.ON?
  • Make sure whatever your applying for is suitable for you. You take an interest in the role your applying for and you can see progression in the future. I think it's key to have a role you enjoy doing daily as it can have a big impact on mental/general health. If you have always wanted to do something in particular for a long time, put your focus into making that dream become a reality. Ensure you have all the skills and knowledge that is required from the application and the top bit of advice is be yourself.
