I am a store manager in retail and i oversee the general running of the store which includes performance management, doing rotas and handling cash and maintaining security daily. I am also responsible for hiring and developing talent within my organisation and help out at other store where I am needed.
I haven't necessarily learned any new skills but I have learned new things while being on this degree apprenticeship. It is great to do some self reflecting whilst doing the assignments and one recent one for me was around my own emotional intelligence and cultural intelligence, in which I learned a lot about myself.
I am thoroughly enjoying being on this programme. I must admit, I feel like I underestimated what was expected of me doing this degree, but now I am into the swing of it I have found my rhythm and am enjoying it immensely and cannot wait to say I have graduated and got a degree!
The whole programme has been extremely well organised and well structured, too. We are told in plenty of time when our next study blocks are, when assignments are due and when anything changes, too. We are also told in plenty of time if our study blocks are to be in person or via zoom.
I cannot say just how much support I receive, it is incredible! We have plenty of off site pay so that we can take time away from work to do the assignments that are due, and any witness testimony's for our portfolio. I know I am always supported when I need any help.
I have a personal tutor who is always there for me, whenever I need any assistance. And on top of that I also have the support of the other tutors who teach for the other assignments. Anglia Ruskin are clearly extremely well at what they do and I cannot say enough about how much of a support they are for me.
This qualification allows me to perform better in my role due to the things I am writing, and learning about, in my assignments and on the study blocks. For example I did an assignment on Team Climate in my first year and it really helped me to look at everyone differently and approach all my colleagues differently too.
I'm not sure just how much The Co-op has in terms of extra curricular activities although I do know that the membership side of The Co-op put on plenty of activities and over Christmas I took part in a Christmas quiz where other members, employees or not, could attend, and it was great fun!
Yes
I have worked for The Co-op for many years now and I truly believe they are a fantastic organisation to work for. The put their colleagues at the heart of all their decisions, whilst being able to be a business. Their ethics and values are second to none and I highly recommend them!
Please do no apply on a whim! Make sure that it is the right job for you, including the hours that you will be working and the tasks you will be undertaking. Do plenty of research and ensure you thoroughly read through the welcome email which tells you all about the interview process.
