Help senior engineers with the design of technical solutions for waste infra (sewerage) problems for Severn Trent Water. This encompass, technical input to projects from feasibility, through to detailed design, construction, testing, commissioning and handover. Undertake feasibility evaluation/assessment for projects within the required timescales and within agreed feasibility budgets through both site visits and analysis of data.
I have learnt a number of new skills such as: AutoCAD Civil 3D - Creating and revising drawings for projects Waste Waster Modelling - Learnt how to create solutions for flooding projects using waste water modelling software. Improved communication skills by communicating wit people across the business and from different levels such as senior managers to fellow apprentices.
I have very much enjoyed my time on my Severn Trent apprenticeship programme. I have found my colleges and peers to be very supportive and willing to help me in my development as I start my career. I feel very lucky to work for a company that values it employees as much as they do here.
My programme has been organised and structured very well, there was an introduction right at the start with all the other new apprentices, this was very helpful as I got to know the other apprentices on my programme. I know what is expected of me on my programme and I know what I must achieve and when I must achieve it by.
I have received plenty of support from my employer, there is a team in HR dedicated to helping and supporting the apprentices on programme. I have also received plenty of support from my manager and colleagues in my team who have been very helpful as I start my career and look to develop and progress.
My training providers have provided my with plenty of support as I work to achieve my qualifications. I have monthly reviews with my training provider to review the progress I have made and to plan what I am going to achieve in the time before the next monthly review meeting.
The qualifications that I am achieving though my training provider are very relevant to my role. I am directly using the knowledge I have learnt at college in my day to day activities. I am also recording my day to day tasks and accomplishments as required for me to achieve my vocational qualifications.
There are plenty of extra-curricular activities for me to get involved in at Severn Trent. We are encouraged to use our two volunteering days a year to help out with projects and improvements in the local communities. For example this year I have helped to planet trees at a local school which is part of our commitment as one of the sponsors of the Common Wealth Games.
Yes
I would recommend Severn Trent to a friend as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working for Severn Trent. I feel very lucky to have started my career at Severn Trent as they have supported my very well and encouraged me to thrive as I start in my career journey.
The tips or advice would you give to others applying to Severn Trent is to make sure that they are applying for a role or programme in which they have an interest or passion in. I think by showing you have an interest or passion in the role you are applying for will really help and this swill come across in the application/interview process.
