My role involves assisting my team with tasks that could be time consuming, in my 5 months here I have also picked up some of my own responsibilities, some are more administrative such as picking up the post and distributing it to others in the office, and some are more technical, I am now responsible for the claims month end for a client as well as processing payments and communicating with auditors and supplying them with needed documents.
I feel my organisational skills have developed dramatically over my time here as I know the importance of workings. If I don't save my workings and an auditor requests them, I would be in trouble. I also feel my ability to speak professionally has improved through client communication as well as meetings with those in my office.
I enjoy the fact that within Aon there is other apprentices who begun at the same time as me, this makes the whole thing easier as I have people to compare myself to. I enjoy the external trainers Aon have hired to teach us the different modules, this is a great change from textbook work as I can ask questions and can get good explanations, if I need them, from a professional.
My programme has a great structure as there is a timeframe that I need to adhere to, although it is flexible enough to allow any troubles. I believe the three modules being evenly spaced apart is a great way of structuring the programme as it gives me good time to thoroughly learn each module rather than cramming the all in at the end like a traditional exam. I have not contributed so much to my portfolio as of yet but I am sure it will be well guided when I come to it. 20% of my working hours are supposed to go towards my apprenticeship, I feel that this gives me a reason to do more revision.
My employer provides study leave before exams as well as everybody in the office is happy to answer my questions. My employer also hires external trainers to support my learning, this proves very effective as I have learnt skills relevant to all corners of work and I am a more knowledgeable employee as a result. My Line manager also holds a monthly meeting with me to catch up on how I am doing in my programme and if I need any help. My employer also has no problem in allowing 20% of my time to go towards my apprenticeship.
My training provider has held sessions to learn the modules, I find this vey helpful. Davies provide a coach, the coach keeps contact with me and checks in that I am feeling confident, makes sure I book exams etc. The coach holds a quarterly meeting with me and my line manager to check if I am progressing well enough, this motivates me to revise.
Through my qualification I have learnt more of the legislation which causes our processes to be how they are,. I have also learnt underwriting processes through my apprenticeship which gave me a good foundation to understanding several processes in my office. My day job is always building on knowledge learned through my apprenticeship. Often I will be getting introduced to something new and I will somewhat understand beforehand due to my learning through my qualification. However, some knowledge does seem irrelevant to my day job at the moment, but, could be useful at some point.
My office does hold socials frequently to keep good working relationships, this often involves drinks after work or birthday meals, Christmas do's, team lunches etc. My office also likes to help the community through charity days, beach cleans and food bank help. Any insurance events on the Isle of Man will also be attended by my office, such as the CII dinner.

Whilst at Aon I have earned money whilst also working towards a qualification. Aon have been very supportive of my studies as well as challenging me to improve in my day job and take on more responsibility. Aon have been very friendly and inclusive of me. Aon are also a huge global company that is always growing and opportunities will always prop up.
I believe opportunities that include growth are the best option for anybody. Aon is a huge company so there is always room to move up. Linkedin is a great place to find these opportunities as Aon are always posting vacancies on the site (including my own) and a good network is crucial for growth.
