My role involves working with colleagues on the team to provide our clients with prime brokerage services. This means I gain exposure to hedge fund clients which helps me to learn about how they function and interact with an investment bank. It allows me to connect and learn about all different areas of the bank so I can learn all the different products and services we provide.
I have learnt many new skills be it from negotiation skills to leadership skills. It also provides development of existing skills such as excel and all Microsoft applications. It also have enhanced my confidence and networking skills as a results which is key to career development. It develops tangible and intangible skills
I thoroughly enjoy my program as I am able to work within a fast paced investment banking environment whilst achieving industry recognized qualifications. This is allowing me to learn on the job which means my knowledge is tailored to the organization which helps me to build a career here as a result.
The program is well structured with the qualification element which has a dedicated training provider and tutor. Then there is the portfolio side which ensure I meet the necessary learning objective including a work based project that I have my own skills coach for who is very supportive and helpful with all needs.
I receive lots of support from my employer as they provide many skills based sessions to enhance this. There is also lots of support from line managers and colleagues who really encourage the program and development in this way. We also have dedicated support points in the business and outside the business.
We receive lots of support form training providers with a full portal full of study session, mock questions and full mock exams. We then have a dedicated skills coach who helps us and guides us through the portfolio evidence side of the apprenticeship. We also have a tutor on the exam side.
My qualification has for sure made me perform better as the content of the exams is very relevant to the the role I sit within. It had helped for me to learn many of the technical elements in details in terms of all the financial products but also the necessary financial regulation.
There are many extra-curricular activities on offer to us ranging from within the apprentice cohort to across the bank across all ranks and areas. Examples include team socials, apprentice socials or community days to help out the community of where you work to be a better place. There are also many networks within UBS you can join.
