Work in audit teams that vary over a year, working alongside colleagues to complete audit tasks and complete various worksheets. Also complete stocktakes throughout the year. Alongside my work, I have exams which I am given time off to revise for.
I have learnt Excel skills, communication skills, team-working skills, time management skills etc.
I really enjoy the audit apprenticeship programme as work is different each and every day and gives me an opportunity to meet lots of new people from various backgrounds, who are all very kind and approachable. Can be stressful sometimes when managing work around exams.
The audit apprenticeship programme is structured very clearly, and I know what I will be going over the course of the next 5 years. Some information can be communicated a bit late, such as dates, locations etc.
Overall, the employer supports my apprenticeship significantly. You are free to let co-workers know when you want to revise for exams, and are usually fine with asking lots of questions. I'm given time off for study leave too.
The training provider provides me with full day lessons approaching exams, as well as lots of online tools to help revise and learn. They also host live revision sessions a few days before the exam for personalised online support.
At such an early stage of my apprenticeship, the work I have completed with my training provider has given me a base understanding of some of the work I do in my professional life, however has not been totally applicable in most scenarios just yet.
KPMG offers a few extra-curricular events, especially networking events, external presentations and volunteering events. I do feel the Newcastle office specifically has much less than some other offices, however there is still a good amount to get involved in.
Yes
KPMG is a great place to start working in professional services, and definitely has the people and structure to want to stay for the long-term. At such a young age it provides really important experience that will really improve your skillset for any future business endeavours.
Research the company and its values. Practice for tests if given the option, be yourself during interviews and relax, answering questions honestly and effectively.
