  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I look after a team of 8 sales consultants. Age profiles range from 26 to 57. all have entirely different personalities and training/coaching needs and experience/backgrounds. I am here for them, to develop, coach, ensure they deliver and have the tools to be the best they can be. I regularly take on additional project work and have 5 activities ongoing at present, in addition to my normal daily duties. I speak wit providers (insurers) and the team and collaborate with other teams within the group on a daily basis - via Teams (telephone/face to face) and in person.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely. Time Management, PDP, Self Reflection, Learning Styles, Self Awareness, CPD, Problem Solving & Decision Making, Building Relationships - Assertiveness, Transactional Analysis Running an effective team meeting Managing People And how to apply all this in my day to day working and (actually) home life. I have grown so much over the last twelve months, in my role, and as a person. I lead from the front and enable others to be the best they can be through effective management and ongoing coaching. I have learnt to reflect from within which has helped me to identify areas to develop.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the programme. It's so tough trying to fit everything in alongside a full time job (which often goes outside of working hours and invades weekends and evenings often) but as soon as you realize what you can't do in working hours must be done in your own time, it's easy to focus and get through the workload and look at all the other material available to you without being interrupted.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the structure is great. We have a classroom session arou8nd once per 4/5 weeks, which I work from home to do, so I have the quiet focused environment needed to engage and really concentrate and freely contribute. I have great support from my coach, who always checks in on my wellbeing and safety too. I feel welcome, appreciated, part of a community, with shared passions and aspirations with the others on my course. I have loved meeting new people on my course and sharing ideas with people from different backgrounds that I probably would otherwise never have spoken to! The course is fast paced, and it is easy to get behind if you don't focus your time and prioritize your workload. You have to be dedicated and ready to put in the hours as needed, not to check the boxes, but to really learn, grow and understand the topics fully.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel privileged to have been offered the course. My employer wants to be behind me, but we are such a big organization I perhaps get lost in this. My manager wats me to succeed and allows me the autonomy to manage the course and workload myself. But, often it gets too much, and I am guilty of taking on too much and not asking for help. My coach is amazing. Very understanding and supportive. The additional materials and course suppoprt from RTB is fantastic. I love the webinars, youtube vids, TED talks, podcasts, it's all great.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Not much really. I think the majority of it is on the student to pace themselves, invest fully in the course and associated material and get on with it. Your coach checks in with you each month to see how you are progressing, but not really any further input from RTB. I can access support of needed via my coach and the online learning platform, but the work is on me, and I am wholly accountable for the quality and extent of the work I put in.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Absolutely it does. I am a better person for being on this course. I use it with my children, with my colleagues, my team, other teams, other managers, in coaching, in everyday interactions with people. I have found the time management aspect and also the self reflection elements particularly useful to me personally to help me see how I can be better, and demonstrate those strengths with my team.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • I am a members of our church community, have close contact at an old BNI networking group I was affiliated with, part of two school communities and have friends past and present dotted around all over. I am always on hand to volunteer/help/get involved if I can. We also do a lot of fundraising in the office, at least once a year for a local charity which is match funded by the group. I like to chair/head up these meetings so we can promote and make a real difference.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Ardonagh to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because I have grown so much from what I have learnt about myself, my own development areas and lateral thinking. I think every manager should have to go through and do this course to better themselves as everyone I have ever known would benefit from the skills and techniques I have learnt.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Ardonagh?
  • Manage your time. Prioritize. Invest in yourself. Be dedicated to achieving. Be open minded. Be open to change. Think about your own aspirations and career beyond the course. Think about what you hope to achieve, and build on it.
