On a day-to-day basis, my role mainly consists of completing administration tasks. For example, I have responsibility for the apprenticeship inbox which involves allocating emails to each person, replying to as many emails as i can and controlling the storage of emails. Another aspect to my role is attending career events. We attend these to spread awareness and promote that we offer apprenticeships.
When talking about learning a new skill, the first thing that comes to mind is Excel. Although I still struggle with Excel, when i first started my job I was very new to it. Since then my team have aided me with improving my skills and gaining confidence to use the application. In terms of skills i have developed, i would certainly say my communication skills have improved.
I can confidently say i am very happy with my current programme. One of the reasons i can say this is the team i work with are very supportive of both my skills and knowledge for work but also are very supportive with my apprenticeship and college work. In addition, being able work for the University of Oxford is something i am proud to be a part of.
My programme is very organised and has a clear structure. For example, I have set meetings with my assessor where I will be given clear and useful feedback on my work, I am then given clear instructions for my next tasks. I know exactly who to go to for any questions i might have which is really useful as a i feel i am never alone and can receive support whenever i need it.
My employer could not be more supportive with my apprenticeship. They are always happy to give me and guidance and support and will always find time in their busy calendars to do so. I am encouraged to be the best version of myself by them and i couldn't be happier to have such a supportive employer.
My training provider could also not be more supportive. My assessor regularly assures me that i will achieve the grade i am aiming for and gives me guidance on how to do so. My college teacher is very supportive as well. My teacher ensures that all of the class is comfortable with the information and will always provide additional help if needed.
Having set meetings and tasks to complete for set specific dates encourages me to be more time efficient at work, meaning i am able to manage my time more affectively. Furthermore, it keeps me in a routine of completing tasks to the deadline and to a high standard which is useful for my role.
Yes absolutely. We have something called 'the Apprenticeship Network' which is a great way for apprentices to be more social with each other, meet other apprentices from different departments which will expand their knowledge of the University, and have conversations about their experiences. In fact, I co-lead the network with another apprentices, this was a result of my team who encouraged me to do this.
Yes
Working for the University is great. They take great care of their apprentices all they way through their apprenticeship and even help them prepare for wherever life takes them after they have finished their course, whether that be with the University or not. Although, 90% of apprentices stay on at the University further highlighting their excellence.
I would say to be open minded. The University apprenticeship scheme is a vast one, there are a large variety of apprenticeships with a large variety of jobs to go with it. Therefore, take time to look through all the options as you will always find something that suits you.
