  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • providing copper and fibre drop wire to customers house. talking to customers and answering customer queries. fault finding and helping bring customers into service. going into different intervention points in the network including pcps. also including dps at the top of poles. and going into telephone exchanges. and sticking to health and safety.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • ive learned all about the way a telephone network is built up and how faults can occur on the network. i learned about all the health and safety procedures including ladder straps and ppe. ppe includes helmet gloves glasses boots uniform ear defenders masks harness pole belt and safety lanyard.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i enjoy it however its allot of course work but this is necessary to demonstrate how much you learn and to prove you are safe on the network. other engineers are always ready to lend and hand and help with advice and past experiences. you feel part of a team.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the on the job training isnt allot however you learn allot on your own which is rough to start and stressful but after a while you get used to it and learn how to manage your day and engage with members of the team and customers. the buddying is good but not long.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my manager is very helpful and is always ready to take a call and give advice. also ready to come out and help. my manager also is understanding to many situations and problems that i may face when out on the job. my current manager is patent and understanding regarding time.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • they give time if needed and plenty of absences to do apprenticeship work. during this time you can understand what is expected of you and how to put it all together so you can pass the end point assessment and succeed. i am confident in passing my end point assessment.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • it has helped me allot with my job. i have learned more things. i also have spoken to other people about this and it has helped allot too. the correct procedures have helped me allot and follow them. i believe that i now know what is expected of me.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • yes there is many instances ive heard off that this happens. there is a football group of people that always look for people to play. it is nice to meet people out side of work and have fun. it helps build the teamwork between the team and break down any barriers.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • it is a job for life the training is abit rough and you are thrown in abit but that is necessary to understand the job and what is expected of you. it is a great company that will always look out for you and support you where ever you need it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • be ready for the training and be ready to feel overwhelmed but that is expected and it will come with time. use the people around you and contacts to call if u need help and try to take your time understanding everything. you are given time to learn so don't panic.
