  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I sort through opportunities to find those best for the company to pursue. I work with my team and the wider business to create winning bids. We design documents and presentations, and discuss how best to present our product to the customer. I am always in communication with others in the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since joining the company I have become surprised at the array of skills I have developed. My role and team have bought out qualities in me that I did not notice before. • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The apprenticeship has been the most fulfilling experience of my life. I have enjoyed my day to day job role due to the great team around me. The apprentices are all well looked after. We have been given many opportunities to get to know the people we work with and for, and learn about the company and the way it works. In my 6 months I have not felt poorly treated or not listened to once. The support from my line manger and the wider organization has been fantastic.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The work side of the programme is well balanced and does not put too much stress on the study side. The company links study goals well with day to day roles and there is plenty of opportunities for on the job learning. The mentor system works well with line managers being involved in study life, making sure I am happy within the company and with the workload.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Whenever I have felt I need support there is always someone there, especially my line manager. I have been mentored in a way that I have continuously learnt more about my role and the best ways for me to work, not just best practice. The teamwork approach taken is valued by my colleagues and when personal issues have arisen at home, my team and employer has supported me.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider gives very useful monthly one to one sessions, as well as quarterly reviews and regular feedback on work I have produced. There are mostly quick responses to problems that arise and the tutors mark work in good time. Sometimes the feedback can be minimal.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is very relative to my role, it has helped me understand more around the processes I should be using and the best practices. I can apply these ways of working to my role and I see the efficiency and effect it has. This is made easier by most of the tasks set by my tutor being relevant to the real job world.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • The community at DHL is fantastic, there are chances through emerging talent to meet and network with other apprentices, regular team meetings, even with wider functions. There are charity events such as tough mudder or tree planting activities. There are an array of opportunities to go all over the country to visit sites and aspects of the company. The expenses system also means people wont miss out on extra curricular activities.

  • 9a. Would you recommend DHL to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because they are amazing with people. They care about the people they employ and genuinely believe they are the biggest asset. They care about the environment and other aspects of society, which makes me proud to work for them. The generosity of the company amazes me with so many employee bonuses. Management is also effective so holiday, expenses, pay slips etc. is all very well looked after, relieving stress.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DHL?
  • Be yourself and be open to new challenges. Do not believe that you are just applying to a logistics company, you are applying to a community and team. Take the opportunities that come your way and don't be afraid to reach out if you have issues at work or at home. Be eager to learn and don't worry if things seem difficult to begin with, you will soon grow into your role.
