  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I spend time designing and re designing apps for both internal and external clients. I also spend time researching the apps current state or the closest process that the app would replace. I also have discussions with other more senior UX designers in the business to ensure that there is cooperation across the different aspects of the business.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I spend a lot of time using Figma as a way to design the digital products which gives me a lot of opportunity to learn how to use this piece of software. I have a lot developed soft skills like presentations skills, communication skills, and teamworking as I spend most of my time working with a team.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme thoroughly as am passionate about design meaning I enjoy the content of my job. There is also a very relaxed yet business professional working environment which allows me to develop and complete my daily tasks without feeling extreme pressure or stress. My department is also made up of several other apprentices which helps me to fit in more.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured allowing me to easily manage full time work with study. My time at university is broken up into 'sprints' which allows me to spend a week at university meaning that I can have more of a 'typical university experience' and feel more like a student when at university and more like an employee when at work.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer both active and passive. Firstly I receive help from other apprentices in my company as I am able to go to them for support based off their experience. I am also able to go to my manager for support weather it be to as for more time to be spent doing university work or to ask specific questions about my work. Also I receive passive support as there is a relaxed work environment which allows me to manage my workload easily.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive a lot of support from my training provider with support from both tutors/lecturers and skills coaches. I am always able to go to my lecturers to ask questions about any assignments and I have regular meetings with a skills coach to ensure that I am meeting the requirements needed to pass my apprenticeship. I also have access to any support that a 'normal student' would have where I have found the study skills support to be very helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel that my training helps me to perform much better at work as I often use the skills and knowledge learnt at university in my daily work. This helps me to make significantly more progress than I would make if I just went to 'normal university' or 'normal work'

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are a number of activities that are available at work such as an onsite gym with weekly classes, a badminton club, and networking events. There is a group called FTSE which is a group of early careers colleagues who organise networking and team building activities which helps to create a welcoming environment for any early careers colleagues.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Bentley Motors to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • There is an extremely welcoming environment where apprentices are treated like any other colleague which allows apprentices to see what the 'real world' is like in a safe environment. There is also a lot of opportunity for development along side the training providers like placements in other parts of the business.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Bentley Motors?
  • Make sure that you stand out in your CV/cover letter for example if you can show past work that relates to the job you are applying for this can help to show that you have a passion for the job. Also make sure to research the company and the 'Bentley Behaviours' and include those in your application if you can.
