For my role as a cabler I am required to rod and rope, put in subducts, and blow fibre into the underground network. During this process there are varies problems we come across such as blockages ect, that I can gain experience from and learn how to over come them.
I have had courses teaching me the fundamentals of my job role, these being cabling techniques, Roding and roping, how to work in the underground network safely, and traffic management. I have also had the opportunity to learn new skills that are add ons to my role such as a jetting and overblowing course.
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship at Openreach because they are offering world class training and making sure that I am well equipped to do my job. I have been supplied with all the relevant information to do my job and know where to access anything I need to know.
My program so far has been structured well, from my initial introduction, to how the rest of the apprenticeship will take place. It has been properly organised to a point where I know where I should be with my apprenticeships at different points, ensuring I am progressing at the pace I need to be.
Id say the support I am receiving from my employer is unmatched, my manager is looking out for me well and making sure he gets me on all the relevant training for my job role, and any guidance I need he is there and easy to get in contact with.
I have not long started my apprenticeship however what they are supplying with the varies workshops and progress reviews I believe there is plenty of support there. I am also aware of the relevant people I can contact for further assistance. The general attitude from the tutors is that they are keen to help.
A big part of my apprenticeship is that I have to create a portfolio of what I have learnt in my role. Keeping record of my work with the portfolio helps because I can reflect on what experience I have gained and look back on how I overcame certain problems.
There aren't any activities that I am aware of so much however the company has social funds which fund meals out with the team and events such as Christmas party's ect. The company also has discount scheme to encourage you to cycle to work and use the gym.

I would recommend working at to a friend because of the high level of training you receive and level of support. I truly believe that they are a great company to work for and I am happy to be doing my job. From my experience, the company has looked after me well.
My advice would be to explore the different roles within the company there are varies jobs you could end up doing. If you feel comfortable that you would be ideal for each role then rest easy knowing that they will supply you with the training for whichever role you take up.
