I am a people manager which is an HR and Administrative role. I work mostly in recruitment and retention however I also deal with all people issues and work with my hierarchy to develop people strategies and highlight people related issues. I monitor training within restaurants to ensure all are meeting the requirements and needs of each restaurant. Ensuring sufficient training cover and monitor progress to plan for next managers and trainers
I have developed my ability to discuss issues with my hierarchy and gained confidence to confront any people issues and support both managers and employees to resolve these in a way that everyone is happy. I have also gained better understanding on ĺaw and legal responsibilities of our organisation as well as confidence to write and review our policies.
I enjoyed the learning side of the programme. Each unit helped to develop my skills and broaden my knowledge set. I found the tracker difficult to stay on top of however my second Learning coach really helped my get back on top and in a good place. The support was amazing
The overall structure of the programme was good. There were learning units spaced out over each period and there was good information provided by the unit coaches to prepare each assignment. Regular check ins with my learning coach also offered good support ensuring I had all my apprenticeship up to date.
My supervisor was very supportive and gave me sufficient time off the floor to develop each area of HR. He also worked with me to support my learning by reading various assignments to ensure I had completed the tasks due to my learning difficulty. He spent time working with me to put my learning into practice.
My first learning coach left midway and but my second learning coach has been amazing in supporting my learning and checking the details on my tracker and SDP to ensure I was remaining on top and providing sufficient detail. She also was very responsive to my emails offering advice when asked.
It has given me more knowledge and confidence in developing my role and I have since taken on more responsibilities to continue to be able to contribute to my organisation. I have taken a big interest in mental health and wellness and having a better understanding of our legal responsibilities have supported my introduction of mental health support at work.
We hold regular events across our organisation both for fun and also for charity fund raising. We are able to network with other people managers from other franchises and arrange meet ups to share ideas as well as using social media. We are currently rallying a team for an inflatable obstical course to raise funds for charity

McDonalds offers a good flexible working shift pattern to accommodate life away from work. They are an inclusive employer and it has been brilliant learning about other cultures through meeting people at work. They are supportive of my childcare needs and are fully supportive of the apprenticeship programmes offered as well as offering benefits such as an EAP and vast discounts from major retailers.
You will meet many people and somewhere in there is an amazing social circle waiting for you. We offer amazing training programmes and development not restricted by availability or outside of work activities. The first few days can be quite daunting as you learn the ropes but we have supportive people on hand to guide you through your training and introduce you to everything you will need to know.
