My role as a crew trainer involves coaching, teaching, being an excellent role model and having expert knowledge on every station. I consistently coach the team around me and support them in delivering a great customer experience, making sure the products we produce are of a gold standard at all times.
On my apprenticeship I have learnt more about how the health and safety acts put in place affect my workplace and how we use them in our procedures. I wouldn't say I have learnt any new skills, but my general knowledge of the hospitality industry has been improved overall.
I really enjoy the meetings I have with my lifetime training coach, he makes the experience enjoyable and the interaction makes it easier for me to understand new knowledge. I find it quite challenging to find the time to complete the independent work however as it is quite repetitive over time.
The programme is excellently structured in order for me to be able to work through it at a pace which suits me. All the resources and tools I need are easily accessible and I can work through each section slowly without being overwhelmed with more work than I can complete.
It would be better if I received more help from my employer, I do not get enough time on the shift to complete my apprenticeship work so I often have to complete it myself at home. They were very encouraging for me to sign up to the apprenticeship scheme, but less helpful now.
I receive lots of excellent guidance and support from the training provider. I feel confident that I am working towards my qualification at a steady rate and the time allocated will be enough for me to work through it. I feel as though my working life is taken into account and my balance of work to free time is still considered.
I do not think the qualification directly affects my job role. It is giving me skills that in my opinion would help a managerial position more than my current role. I perform well in my current role and the qualification is only generally related to my place of work as hospitality, food and beverages is a broad spectrum.
Since Covid-19 the extra curricular activities have understandably decreased. We used to partake in football events and have regular crew events which have not been reintroduced yet. However we still continue our volunteer work at a local care farm which involves team building exercises and cleaning up a local area.

McDonalds has an excellent working environment. My colleagues have become a second family and I always feel safe and happy at work. I get job satisfaction and I am able to go home and not have any worries about work that needs to be completed on my next shift or deadlines that I need to fill.
Working at McDonalds is directly dependent on teamwork skills and how you communicate. The company is happy to provide you with support to progress in your role, but it is important that you enjoy working as a team. Another thing to remember is that McDonalds is part of the fast food industry so you must be able to cope with high demand.
