  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At the moment I am working on the more technical side of business. This includes assisting the brokers by creating documents such as slips and endorsements. Also, I am frequently updating spreadsheets so that the team can track how much money is coming in and how we can plan for the future.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes since joining aon I have learnt many new skills and developed my existing ones. The skill I have developed most has been my communication skills. This is because I have learnt how important communication is for a company in order to work as a team. Also, my confidence has improved hugely.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying my programme so far. I am eager to learn more skills on a daily basis and getting more involved in my team. Also, it is nice to have an apprentice network because we are all able to talk to one each other and help each other. This has made me enjoy my programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme is very well structured. The training provided is very well organised and the exam preparation is spread out accordingly. We have a very good coach who has organised the programme very well and therefore this pushes us to work harder every day so that we can achieve the goal of passing all exams.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get regular support from my employer. If I ever need to ask a question I feel more than comfortable speaking to my manager or my connector. Since starting my programme I have had lots of sessions with my employer where they teach me the principles of reinsurance. They have taught me all the necessary skills for this stage of the programme.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider supports me a lot when working towards my qualifications. This includes quarterly reviews, constant emails updating us on any changes and revision calls. I feel very comfortable asking my coach a question if I am unsure with anything. So far I am very content with the amount of training I have received leading up to my first qualification.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification, through my training provider, has helped me perform to a much higher standard in my role at work. Many of the skills I have learnt from my training have been firmly implemented into my day to day activities. I think that as I move through my qualifications I will perform even better as time goes on.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • So far I haven't seen many extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. We have had a few nights out as team which made me feel much more comfortable with everyone. Also, there have been a few networking events with the other apprentices so that we can improve our connections across the company, which have helped. I am going to research into sports teams in the company.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Aon to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Aon is a great company for an apprentice because it allows you to learn and earn at the same time. This therefore is a great way to work your way up the working ladder. Also, it guarantees you a job at the end of the programme, so is a great long-term career move. I would recommend Aon to anybody looking for a job from school.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aon?
  • I would advise others who are applying to Aon to just be yourself during the interview stage and don't try to be somewhere who you are not. I am certain that if you work hard during the exam and interview process you are more than likely to get a role in the company. And of course just work hard and be confident in yourself.
