My role includes interpreting and analysing UK VAT Law in order to build knowledge to advise large UK and multinational companies on their VAT affairs. I also help to prepare VAT returns for clients. I work alongside a team to create high quality deliverables to share with clients.
I have improved my communication and teamwork skills greatly. I also have improved my professional skills and am able to speak with colleagues and clients with confidence. I have developed my skills with technological applications/tools such as Excel etc and have built knowledge of UK VAT law.
I enjoy my programme a lot and receive specialist, high-quality VAT training, have a job, work towards a professional qualification and receive a salary. I work alongside professionals and prepare deliverables for important, multi jurisdictional clients in relation to their UK VAT affairs. My team often go out for socials which is great for team building.
My programme is very well structured, I work with a tuition provider to work towards a professional qualification awarded by ICAEW as well as working full time and developing my technical knowledge. I also have an apprenticeship coach who is there for any assistance with my apprenticeship programme and a counsellor who monitors my progress and is there in case of any concerns.
I receive support from my employer through specialist VAT and tax training, being appointed a counsellor for support with my job, being appointed an apprenticeship coach for support with my apprenticeship programme and feedback. I also receive support through wellbeing teams and Champions for support with mental and physical health should I need it.
I receive support from my training provider for my qualifications through live online (virtual) and in person classes, learning and revision days. I also receive support through the teachers/lecturers who are available to answer questions after college or via email when needed. There is also a dedicated help team who are available via email for support with knowledge when this is needed.
My qualification helps me to perform better in my role by giving me technical knowledge which is relevant to my job. It also helps by making me aware of and giving my some knowledge of other taxes and service lines. The qualification also teaches me how to act with integrity, considering ethics etc.
There are some extra curricular activities, there are opportunities to get involved with sport events within teams or with other teams. There are also opportunities to become an ambassador or representative of the apprenticeship programme which involves speaking with both current apprentices to gather feedback and also speaking with college-age students to explain the opportunities at EY.
Yes
There is great support available, an opportunity to earn while you learn, vast career paths to choose, which are offered to you. My daily tasks are enjoyable, my team are friendly, and I am given as much responsibility as I am comfortable win. There is a positive, welcoming environment which encourages you to work hard.
I would recommend any applicants to read about EY and navigate around the website to understand what we offer. I would suggest that any potential applicants do not read the news about EY - this is often untrue and Partners in the final interview are unlikely to want to hear about what news articles are saying, though it is good to have a wider picture of the business.
