  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Day-to-day is dependent on what type of project you are on. I am currently taking part in an Anti-money Laundering project where I complete customer due diligence reviews on Investment clients. I collate all of the information on these individuals and analysing the risk they pose to the client in terms of financial crime.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes. I have began to specialise in Anti Money Laundering. This has progressed my skills in this regions immensely. I joined this programme with completely no understanding or awareness of what AML even stood for. I would know say I have a good understanding of the risks associated and how to identify them

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as I understand the benefits I gain from it. Although it is extremely hard work balancing a degree and a full time job, the experience I have gained is invaluable. My peers are extremely friendly and it is a nice environment to work in. I am able to benefit from off the job training and on the job training simultaneously

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programmme is very well structured. I have one designated day a week that is allocated to university where I attend in person. This makes up part of my 20% of off the job learning. Out of term time when university isn't on, the one day we would've spent in University is given to us as a study day to work on assignment and portfolio, these can be allocated throughout the year

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I get a lot of support from my employer. I have regular calls with my counsellor who supports me through my apprenticeship and helps me with bridging the gap between work and university. We also engage with the apprenticeship team at work who provide us with opportunities to develop our management practice

  • There is lots of support avenues available. We have a University coach who, similar to my workplace counsellor, helps with your university and portfolio progress. We have quarterly meetings where progress is reviewed and we set action plans for the upcoming quarter on what i plan to achieve and how i will do it

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The course I am on is business leadership and management, the skills i learn and develop at university can be put into practice in the workplace. On the whole it helps me to develop my professional practice and therefore I can perform better at work as I am equipped with the knowledge

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Yes. I take part in a Netball team at work, we complete in the local league on a weekly basis. I also attend work social events when we are given a budget to spend on activities outside of work. I also help out with professional networking events for student recruitment events

  • 9a. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EY is great firm to work for. They are invested heavily in development of staff and care that you are well supported. The team morale is always positive and there is always support systems in place if they are needed. I enjoy the work/life balance with flexible working and the hybrid approach to working from home

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • Be prepared to work hard in order to achieve a role you desire. The application process is hard work however if you are committed and want to succeed then it is achievable to anyone. The degree is difficult and a step up from A-levels however the support is available and there are many others in the firm that have taken part in previous cohorts that would be willing to help
