I work with franchisees within McDonald's. I ensure brand standards in the areas of people, customer obsessed, operations excellence, operator involvement and financials. I also support and consult the franchisees on their decision making within these areas. This involves giving customer feedback and partnering them on their business plans.
So far, I have learned about the CIPD profession map and how to create an effective CDP, linked to this map. I have learned how my current role can still support this. I have reviewed new information on employment law, organisational structure and how to embed values within organisational tactics.
I find the programme enjoyable, with the topics relevant and useful in my day to day role. However, I do find that the apprenticeship work does not always get completed in advance of any assignment being completed. I think that I miss out on learning when there is a tight deadline on submission. It is not possible to complete all learning, ahead of completing assisngments.
The programme is well structured and the platform easy to understand. My Learning Development Consultant has been excellent in supporting the apprenticeship side of my learning. The monthly calls have helped to keep me on track with my learning and tasks. The weekly calls have been less structured since a change in who holds these.
My reporting manager is extremely supportive. We have monthly calls, as well as ad-hoc, to review my progress. I also share monthly updates to support these conversations. We debrief my assignment feedback on a regular basis. I am given control over my own schedule to ensure that I have appropriate learning scheduled.
I have monthly calls with a Learning Development Consultant, which has significantly helped. She will check in on my learning and if I have any concerns with this. I have found that I do not get much support from the weekly sessions that are held, as these are hosted whilst I am unavailable.
I feel that this has helped me reflect on my own development in more detail and how I can structure this to help support in my longer term career ambitions. It also helps me to reflect on current people practices and how I can support my operators to be more progressive in this area.
There is nothing specific within my role, as my team works in a large geographical spread. It is difficult to get everyone together on a regular basis for anything extra-curricular. Although, we are beginning to do this more often. I find there is much less when you are not office based.
Yes
I have grown as an individual as well as a professional during my time with McDonald's. It has given me a career and one that I am proud of. I have become more confident and have been given numerous opportunities to further my education, as well as a number of different roles.
I would advise to be yourself and be open with your aspirations. McDonald's is extremely inclusive from my own experience and always looking for those that think outside of the box. I would also advise to be confident in challenging the norm. Ask questions if not sure of anything, reporting managers always happy to help.
