To assist the quantity surveyors to ensure they are working efficiently to complete the project in the correct budget and time frame. This consists of tasks such as forming packages to be used to send out tender invitations to potential subcontractors, raising subcontract orders and coordinating with the site managers.
During my college training during my apprenticeship, I have been learning about house building in construction. I have gained some knowledge in construction however it has been a struggle to learn fully effectively as it consists of online learning. This is it is very hard to learn remotely.
I enjoy the programme as it is very diverse. One day I can be raising orders and emailing suppliers the next day I can be on site. Therefore I gain a good overall view of housebuilding. However, due to still being new in the business I also get overlooked sometimes and can find myself with nothing to do.
My programme is not very structured at all. My team were not provided with a structure to help me progress and are too busy for me a lot of the time so I often do not know what I am doing.
I receive lots of support from employer and have a very flexible work life in which I can work from home and are understanding of work/college balance
My provider is quite hard to contact and I cannot really get in touch with them outside of my lessons.
Currently it hasn't helped me a lot but as I continue I know it will allow me to be more effective in my role.
