As a business admin apprentice i do things such as dealing with excel files and inputting data such as certificates of calibration , amount of delivered items etc. I also do job cards which say how long someone worked for, which then caalculates a sum of money a employee should recieve and the stock needed for certain job. I also email suppliers regarding deliveries and do job inspections on excel and PAT tests.
I have learned a lot of skills, such as accuracy when inputting data as well as when doing jib cards. I have also earned communication with other people, making me now more self confident and able to speak freely and comfortably with individuals that i do not know and through the phone.
I really like the apprenticeship programme, the company is very supportive throughout so i get lots of help when needed, lots of people to speak to and events organised such as the Brathey challenge in the lake district involving group exercises and also opportunities like duke of edinburgh gold etc. Balfour Beatty is a really good place to do your apprenticeship at!
The programme is very well organised, i never have to wonder what is going to happen next as every little detail is communicated a good time before its going to happen. Theres never any miscommunications and everyone knows what theyre doing and how they shuould act at all times, including their roles and positions.
I recieve a lot of support from my employer, starting from the fact that i have a team which are great and always eager to help when any doubts occur. In addition to this i have a mentor which is also always there to help as well as my manager himself.
I have a set tutor from my learning provider - chesterfield college- shes always eager to help and solve any issues i have when were on a scheduled monthly call , however shes a busy lady and a lot of the time she doesnt get back to me regarding questions or quesries i have through email etc.
I dont see a huge direct correlation , however the courses that i have to complete such as communications course is very beneficial as it helps with dealing with people in general, also assignments about policies within organisations help me understand the right behaviour within work, whats expected of me but also my emplyer etc.
There are always a few things to get involved in outside of work with people from within , such as christmas parties which this year involved an escape room too! , leaving parties which one will take place soon on the 1st of april and generally for apprentices and graduates there was this big event in manchester which lasted the whole day and was quite beneficial.
Yes
Balfour Beatty not only have a set of policies , golden rules etc to look good to visitors , in my opinion they are very much put in place in every day life here. Everyone lives by these rules and its a very happy and cheerful place to work, who ever you pass in halls will smile or say hello. The observation app is also very good as every behviour, good and bad is reported, so no bad deed goes without consequences.
I dont have much tips but id say go for it! as i said before , its such a good company with workers on mind , a place where everyone is always smiley and happy never discriminatory. As long as you try to get on with everyone- (offer to make hot drinks! ) your time here will be as great as mine
