I am an Assistant Quantity Surveyor Responsible for managing the commercial elements of construction projects. I have been involved in two major projects which will improve the UK, these being the University of Manchester - MECD project and HS2.
I am working towards at first class degree in BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying. I am also working toward chartered status with the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyor though the APC process. I have also gain invaluable on the job training relevant to the Quantity Surveying profession.
I extremely enjoy my degree apprenticeship programme and would highly recommend it to anyone that does not want to go down the conventional full-time university route.
My degree apprenticeship programme is extremely structured and is supported by Balfour Beatty's Emerging Talent department.
I receive a lot of support from my employer both in relation to my university work and my work as a Quantity Surveyor.
The support provided by the University of Salford has been good and I would recommend the Quantity Surveying degree programme.
I have that the Quantity Surveying degree programme is more tailored toward Professional Quantity Surveyors rather than Contractor's Quantity Surveyors which makes a lot of the skills learnt irrelevant for my particular role.
I regularly go on work nights out for food and drinks!

Balfour Beatty is a fantastic employer and is highly supportive of it's apprentices as it is recognised that we are the future of the industry.
I would recommend applying for Balfour Beatty if you are certain that you want to go in to a role in the construction industry as you will receive the necessary educational qualifications whilst more importantly receiving first class on the job training.
