Kitchen manager, working with a team of around 18 people, focusing on standards and food quality. Stock counts and ordering and line checking along with people managing activities such as appraisals and personal action plans. Day to day I am in the kitchen ensuring that food quality is high and the team has a good morale
When I first took over a kitchen, I had no knowledge or skills In how to do so. I therefore spent a lot of my own time trying to learn all of the aspects of being a manager. I have now been in my position for around 10 years and have learned that the best way to run a kitchen, is to have a strong team of loyal and well respected staff working along side you
I have only just started the programme so it is difficult for me to know how much I am enjoying it so far. I previously undertook the diploma course and I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was stressful at times but I feel that it has helped me to become a better manager
The structure is very good. The classes are very well thought out and what the day entails is usually sent out to us prior so we know what to expect and what prior learning we need to have completed. This makes the experience a lot easier for us I think.
It's hard to say how much support I am receiving because currently I have not asked for or needed any support. I am given one day off a week that is dedicated to study, which is a huge plus as I'm not sure that I would be able to complete the work without this
As above, I have not yet needed any support from the training provider. Although they have all made it very clear that I would just need to email them to get any support I needed. I have no doubt that I would get a great deal of support when I needed it
I feel that I will gain more confidence in my own management style by completing this programme. I will be more able to present to groups of people, which is something that I am not comfortable doing as the moment. I also feel that it will broaden my mind into different areas that I'd not originally considered
There is no social events that I partake in. However as a company they put on set charity events for our sponsored charity. These involve football competitions, darts tournaments. Family fun days and in house charity events. They have also held sponsored walks and runs as well as others things.
Yes
I have worked for them for 16 years and believe they are the best pub company to work for. They have good benefits such as free shares and bonus systems in place. They have a strong ethic around work life balance and therefore make sure we are looked after as much as possible
Don't expect it to be easy. You get out what you give. The pubs are like families and the more you work, the more you're looked after and cared for by your coworkers. It's not an easy job. But it can be very rewarding and fill you with pride
