Working alongside other electricians to complete tasks such as terminating and installing any equipment or lights as well as completing maintenance tasks which are required. I work in the slurry treatment plant area as well as on the tunnel boring machine and wherever else I am needed for a job
Since joining I have learnt lots of skills such as time keeping and using my time more effectively as well as using tools and completing electrical tasks that need doing such as terminating and glanding. I have learnt about safety within tunnels and on a site and tunnel emergency procedures.
I enjoy my apprenticeship programme a lot as it consists of a lot of learning and a variety of jobs and I am also gaining a lot of on site experience and knowledge which makes it very enjoyable. On top of the work, the team are very helpful and understanding when it comes to teaching me new skills.
My programme is very well organised as I am able to work with all of the electricians at different times and I always have something to do which makes the learning very easy. My on the job experience and college experience are very well organised and split as it means i get a good amount of time doing both per week.
I receive all the support from my employer in terms of when I am needing help with a task there will always be someone to help and assist to make sure I am doing it correctly and learning the correct way. I am also supported through different courses given to me to help expand my learning and knowledge.
I am supported from my training provider when working towards my college qualifications as they offer staff and lecturers who are there to help answer any questions or give advice. The training provider gives a theory day and a practical day every week so I am able to receive plenty of training.
I feel that the qualification provided from my training provider helps me perform better in my role as they give me knowledge through my practical college days on how to use tools and give tips for using tools which I can use when working on my site to help me perform better.
In my work, Balfour Beatty offer a lot of online networking events which can be accessed by all employees if they want to attend and can be very informative. The events are varied which gives all employees an opportunity to have an event which will be useful and specific to them.
Yes
I would recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend because they have a lot of roles and opportunities for lots of people to get involved as well as offering an opportunity to work on a good site to aid a good project where you work along side with a lot of experienced workers and gain a lot of knowledge.
I would advise other people who are applying to or considering to apple to work for Balfour Beatty to do their research of the project they are applying to be on before their interview and if they are successful then i would advise them to be involved as much as possible as there are lots of opportunities to do well and learn a lot within the company.
