On Mondays we work towards are BTEC qualification learning many different units at once with three different teachers. Tuesday to Friday we learn how to safely use practical equipment such as machinery working towards a level 2 qualification. As well as practical work we work out equations and fill out log books.
Coming into the apprenticeship I had zero practical skills or knowledge due to covid preventing my from learning any practical at college. Coming to BMW with zero practical skill I have learnt a lot with each rotation learning many different skills techniques and equipment, as well as new ways of going about handling a task.
For my personally I don't really enjoy Mondays due to being at in a room all day doing and learning assignments but they need to be done to reach the qualification. I enjoy Tuesday to Friday a lot since I get to use new equipment and we rotate and do something new everyday 4-5 weeks
At the beginning of the programme we had nothing to do for the first two weeks. For our college work we were suppose to have two tutors however, we only had one for the first three months. Therefore our class is larger than it is suppose to be because we're combined two to one class. As well we are behind in our work due to starting units late from not getting a electronics and health and safety tutor till late
We receive a good amount of support from BMW as we can go up stairs to the office whenever we require help or have any issues which we need to report. There are also in dialogues which we our updated about the company and are able to ask any question. I think it would be better if this can be done face to face.
I think that the tutors down stairs have taught me a lot of skills and I am able to use a lot of the machinery down stairs safely and think I'd be able to perform a lot of these tasks out on plant. Not enough tutors therefore we have to wait around for all groups to finish before we can change rotation
I have not been able to see since I haven't go out on plant yet however, I think that the skills which I am learning I will be able to apply out on plant. I will be required to perform a variety of tasks and I am gaining a wide range of knowledge and skills through this qualification
There are a mini social group which is made up of apprentices where we can all give in ideas for plans for apprentices to make friends which each other and meet knew people which we wouldn't normally see. Due to COVID there aren't many social activities available. As our year we created a 5 aside football team we did for a couple of months.
Yes
I have already referred this apprenticeship to my friend who is applying for next year. We went to the same college and he wants to do practical work and learn more about engineering which I have done a lot in my first year. Therefore I think he will enjoy it just as much as I have.
When applying show your eagerness to learn as well as this take any experience which may help you in applying such as work experience and show proof of it. I would also say to ask somebody to take a look at your CV and application answers to make sure they show off your knowledge and experience
