I am currently part of the plant team within accounts receivable, my roles include plant matching, answering BMC queries and recording problems that occur when particular invoices don't match. When invoices are unable to match I record the problem on an excel spread sheet which has all my allocations.
When I first joined Balfour Beatty I had no financial experience or knowledge regarding what it was I was going to be doing. Now being 7 months in and starting my second rotation my knowledge around finance and the programmes being used has rapidly increased, meaning I am able to understand everything a lot more due to the amazing training received.
I enjoy my apprenticeship as so far I have received a lot of academic support in regards to AAT Level 3 at Kaplan. Alongside of this, I have received lots of opportunities to attend networking events creating a better network with other employees of balfour beatty all over the country.
I would say my programme is fairly organised as due to Balfour Beatty's policy I am supposed to receive 20% off the job training this could include not only AAT training but on the job training such as learning a new skill within your job role on the daily.
I receive as much support as I need from balfour beatty this could either be for my academic side of work or even just general day to day support if needed. Due to the company being such a large company we have many different support groups that you can request support from if needed.
Every 6 weeks we receive a catch-up within a group with our tutor alongside of individual catch-up's to try understand what has been happening with kaplan/AAT. If I ever need support from my talent coach I am able to just reach out to her and talk to her about any problems I may have.
My qualification helps me towards better performance within my role as a lot of the exam information is used in my everyday role and we can show a stronger understanding of what it is what I do on the daily without realising. For example, I am currently preparing for my tax exam and within my role I work out tax daily.
Within Balfour Beatty we have a group called the N-life team which I have been given the opportunity to be apart of, within this group we plan many different within and outside of the office, this includes many different events such as christmas / summer parties to treating everyone in the building to food. This helps bring everyone together after the pandemic and makes people feel more comfortable.
Yes
I would recommend Balfour Beatty to a friend, as they are a large company that treat there colleagues very well and do there all to support them. Alongside of this they offer to provide your AAT training all the way up to level 7 if that is something you show an interest in which not many companies do for there employees.
Some advice I would give others applying to Balfour Beatty is be patient and have faith in yourself as the application process to hearing whilst you have been successful for an interview was very long wait however it was 100% worth it. Within my apprenticeship I have received many different opportunities and I have only been here for 7 months so far.
