At the moment we are currently focusing on learning practical and knowledge based skills in order to be ready to out-turn onto site, this is done both in lectures, activities and hands on experiences in the workshop which I find to help me learn. Overall we are just improving our skills.
Yes, there is alot of practical engineering skills I wouldn't have learned if I didn't have the resources at AWE for example the instructors have really good knowledge and give great tips and tricks that always help me when doing my work or the machinery and tools which I never had access to before my time at AWE.
I find the apprenticeship pretty interesting and engaging which I find makes it quite enjoyable, with different tasks and teaching methods in order to help make the course engaging and hands on / practical tasks being enjoyable because we get to see our work-piece progress and seeing the final product is really satisfying.
We have a good idea on the whole plan of our apprenticeship and the kind of knowledge and skills we will develop, along side the fact that each apprenticeship has different areas where the learning is better specialised to allow us to develop our skills in environments that aren't to different from where we will end up upon completing our courses.
AWE has many ways to support us, weather that be physically, mentally, in our learning, inside or outside of work. This can be seen through that multiple training sessions we go through which show us the people we can contact if we ever have issues in the company or if we are struggling in everyday life.
We are provided alot of help if we need it, from extra learning being available in the form of online learning sites to being given extra help directly by our instructors which usually fixes most issues we have. We are also given assessments which help us identify where gaps in our knowledge is.
I feel like the qualifications I will receive will greatly help me in my role as it provides me with a much deeper understanding of the processes that go into the work that I will be judging which should actually allow me to give even better feedback to the machinist I will work with.
While I'm not too sure of the details, I have heard about sports teams for things like rugby and football existing. I've also heard about a gym and other extra curricular activities in the fitness department we can access. There are also some professional networking events I've heard about but am again, not sure about the details.
Yes
Because I feel like it given me a direction to follow in my life while also giving me the education I need to keep following this path for potentially the rest of my life which gives a sense of stability that I haven't really had before. There is also the range of career paths you can go within the company which means there isn't a limit to what kind of jobs you can move into.
Make sure you are ready to spend a healthy amount of time developing your basic skills which will act as the foundation for your time at AWE, it may feel like you are being told topics you may already know but you will certainly receive knowledge linked these topics that you would have never been told before.
