On a day to day basis I worked part of a team to deliver a high quality audit for various clients. We would generally have a meeting each day to catch up/run through outstanding activities. It was very IT focused, with different programmes and softwares to help you through the day while testing data.
I have definitely developed my communication skills, by interacting in more formal/professional situations than I was used to. I have learnt how to be more efficient using Excel and technology in general, as well as time keeping and an organised approach. I have also learnt the skill of asking questions and being more comfortable asking for help.
I really enjoy the blended study and work element of my programme, and would recommend it to anyone that wanted work experience while getting a degree at the same time. I enjoyed working in a team and being coached by well knowledged people, as this enriched my experience even further.
My programme is averagely organised in terms of the induction and training. However I had lots of support once I officially started the placement, which was very well organised. There is a great mentor system as everybody has a career coach, who keeps in regular contact to ensure you are doing well.
I receive a lot of support from mentors, buddies and my career coach. There is a wealth of accessible information to help with the software and testing. My peers were always willing to help and support me, there was a great atmosphere of teamwork which I really appreciated at times.
I receive a lot of academic support from my training provider, the lecturers are eager to help and support in whatever way that they can. While on placement, my academic tutor emailed me to make sure that I knew the support was still there. If I had a problem, it would be answered.
I feel very strongly that the qualifications I will receive from this course will hugely help me in this role. From doing a placement, I know so much more about the industry and type of role I might head into. I have enjoyed the benefits of learning which will help me in the future.
My placement was during busy season, so unfortunately there was very few extra curricular activities to get involved with, particularly in my business unit. However, I was put into a social team which did organise events for the summer, by then though my placement will have ended. I would have liked there to be more extra curricular activities.
Yes
The work ethic is very strong, however due to the strong teamwork atmosphere, the work feels achievable. I felt supported for the majority of the time, and people were always willing to listen if I had a problem that I could not solve by myself, and demonstrated that they were happy to take a look.
To engage with your team as much as possible as they are who you will spend your days interacting with, and if you have to work long hours this will make it easier. I would also advise to take advantage of any meetings that you're invited to, to find out even more about the business.
