  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • A day receptionist, on a daily basis I have to check guests in and out, deal with paper work and finance checks. Other tasks include checking rooms once the house keepers have cleaned them. Allocating the house keepers their rooms for the day and making sure their standards are of whitbread policy

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills as this is my first job working in the hotel side of hospitality. I have learnt how to deal with guests face to face rather than over the phone. I have learnt how to do finance daily checks and submitting the end of day finance. I have also experienced working on night shifts as I have never done this before.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme especially having my most recent assessor Mary ward as I feel she guides me in the right direction, she is able to make me focus but remaining the fun experience rather than being boring and dull so I am able to keep an interest in my course.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Since [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] has taken over my apprenticeship I have found this a lot more organised. She will go out of her way to check I’m doing okay outside of our scheduled meetings, she will also remind me of any tests and meetings coming up so I don’t forget.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I find the support from my employer not as good as it could be, my manager is currently going through her level 4 so she is more focused on hers, she will have weekly meetings as I tend to be forgotten about and have to schedule my meetings around my rota when I’m not working

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I receive so much support from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions], she will go out of her way to meet my additional needs such as scheduling additional time as I am dyslexic. She also will remind me of any meetings tests etc before they are coming to make sure I am ready. She has also sent lots of additional content to help me explain in detail

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I feel this qualification will help me perform better in a manager/ leading role in the future, before I lacked confidence in being able to guide a team however now I understand the different managerial approaches and to which one to use on different people so they are able to perform better.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • No additional activities. We did have a Christmas meal however this was rushed in terms of having it done as soon as and not much planning time, we had to eat at the restaurant next door to keep within the company so it was cheaper. We do have a Facebook network page which we can post on etc however this is frowned upon by our area manager.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Whitbread to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend the front of house side to friends as this job seems fair, not to much work is pushed onto reception as it is a set job and the rates of pay are good as it’s over minimum wage. I would not recommend house keeping to friends or family as this can be stressful in the terms of too much work load and too many rooms as they are often short of staff

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread?
  • To get your foot in the door and to be liked by other staff by getting involved and not getting on the wrong side of people. Being lazy or doing bare minimum will make your time with whitbread a lot harder as you will be disliked by others if you are forgetful. Also not to take things to heart
