My Role on a day to day basis involves sweeping certain areas using a listening stick and sounding fittings and stop taps for potential leaks. Sometimes there is meter faults that we may have to go to and alarms in areas which means a big leak which needs finding within 48 hours.
I have learnt how to approach problems with a different view and listen to other people's opinions and take on board there ideas which may help solve my problems. I have also learnt a lot about the water network which i would of never known before starting this role.
The same with most jobs i have good days and bad days but i would definitely say that there is more good days working with severn trent and waking up to go work is not a struggle like i have had before with previous employers. Overall i am enjoying my role.
I was in the group that was the first to do this particular apprenticeship with severn trent so some things have been well structured but there has been a few things that were not one hundred percent perfect but speaking with the new apprentices it seems that these issues has been resolved.
The support from my employer has been fantastic, my manager has been brilliant from start to present and has always done his best to help me get to where i need to be especially on the training courses and getting my one file done which is the coursework side of things.
The training from the provider has been okay, sometimes it was a little hard to get in contact with them but majority of the time it was good. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] from make uk has been the perfect person for me personally and has really done alot to help me get above the target level on my one file.
I feel like with this qualification we have learnt alot more than sort of the basics needed for this job, we have had to learn about the networks and even stuff that the gangs will do which other people in this role without the qualification would not know. this helps perform better as you understand the why we do things aswell as the how to do things
There has been a lot of opportunities to do a range of different things with severn trent, it hasnt been the easiest because our apprenticeship started in the middle of covid but i had the chance to go to schools and help out without interview days and did a volunteering day making paths for disabled access to park benches.
Yes
Severn trent is a brilliant company to work for which comes with an endless amount of benefits! For example you can buy five extra holiday days a year, you can get help with medical things like cancer screenings. they have the sharesave which is the best way ive ever found to save money.
I would definitely say to look into severn trent's values as a company as they are a massive thing within the company! i would also read up on there targets like leakage reduction ones and how they are trying to help the environment for example they have just planted loads of trees in parks across birmingham and coventry
