My role involves interacting with clients and other members of the London Market. When a claim is notified to us, it is our job to act as an agent of our assured to obtain the best possible outcome for them. The key to my role is having specialist knowledge in Marine.
I have learnt so much about the Marine industry and insurance principles during my time at WTW. My skills surrounding email writing and Excel have grown massively. As it is a social job i feel that my social skills have developed since having to meet various people in the London Market.
I am most grateful for the opportunity to take part in the apprenticeship programme offered by WTW and The Growth Company. All the people are friendly and are also very keen to share their own knowledge. The studying is well supported and the work element of the programme allows the studying to link with the practical part of the job.
The exam workshops could be better but overall the job role and study periods are very well structured. Meetings are scheduled in advance and the diary is very easy to use and understand. The job role is very well organised and my team are very well prepared when they are asked to help me.
I receive lots of support from my team. My line manager and i catch up once a week and so he is aware of my developments as well as the areas that need to be further developed. My team are all very friendly and accommodating. There is nothing more that they could do for me.
Personally, I have not received much support from the training provider. The sessions are shorter than scheduled and feels very rushed. I have learnt to teach myself the content and then use the workshops as a means of revision. Outside the workshops we do not have much contact with the training providers.
The exams that i have set so far have been centred around the London Market. The insurance principles are involved, the roles of different parties and certain processes are explained. All is relevant and I have used the knowledge gained from these exams to help me within the job role.
I have joined the inclusion and identity council. This is a group that strives towards inclusion and equality in and outside the workplace. I have not been able to attend any big work events but I have met people within the Market and been able to meet people whom i am in regular correspondence with.
Yes
WTW is a great company that supports the learning and early development of young people in the Insurance Industry. The people are friendly and the work is great, there is routes for progression in every direction. Appreciation is shown towards hard work and we have a really good reputation in the London Market.
I would advise others to be prepared to work for what you want. This apprenticeship is incredibly rewarding but only if you are prepared to contribute your fair share of time and effort to it. It is very exciting to be a part of a world that I had never known before but the experience is unlike any that i have had before.
