Working with in teams on live projects/making items to help support those live projects
Soldering, Developed CAD proficiency, Designing electronics, Coding (Python/MATLAB)
Workplace is extremely accepting and enjoyable. Degree can be very full on and stressful most of the time
First year of them running degree internally. Some staff are organised and provide above and beyond support whilst others are still trying to find their feet. Communication can be a common issues between workplace and degree
Workplace teams are use to undergrads and provide excellent support for those joining team even if they have no previous knowledge in the area
Student support is a bit of a mess with some students having mental breakdowns and being told to meditate and eat less sugary breakfasts when they are crying over stress. Continuous change in plan of direction as well as an almost constant change in staff
I have already started to see areas where content covered in lectures has come up in the workplace especially in electronics and programming rotations
Bi-weekly busses to larger towns/cities, Robotics club, LGBTQIA+ events, On site accommodation provides a traditional university social life
Yes
I would recommend to anyone wanting to start in commercial engineering due to the range of projects you get to see and work on. The course also allows you to try out different types of engineering before choosing a stream to continue your studies and specialise in
Make sure you are able to keep up with high workloads as you will be working a full time job along with your studies and don't be surprised if you spend most weekends studying.
