I work as an audit trainee. This involves doing parts of the audit work on site at clients. We have the opportunity to go into lots of different businesses and meet finance teams there. We also work closely with more senior people internally in BDO
I am currently working towards the ACA qualification. We are starting off by doing the CFAB and then will move onto the ACA. There are lots of opportunities for internal training courses and we also get week releases to college before exams for the CFAB.
Although there is a lot to learn which can be a bit stressful, I am really enjoying working at BDO. The whole team at BDO are very helpful and open to questions which reflects the culture here.
In audit we have a job review system after each audit. This gives us a chance to say what we think we did well and what we struggled with. The manager or senior on the job then adds their comments in which they normally include positive comments which make us feel valued. During audits I feel very much part of the team. BDO definitely make me feel valued.
I think the course is quite well organised. There are set week releases to college for the CFAB qualification. We also have regular meetings with our managers to monitor our progress and discuss any issues. There is also a buddy system when you join where you get paired up with someone who has started the course before you to help you.
Our training is done with BPP. They are very helpful. We have a BPP assessor who comes in and assesses our work and we can contact her with any issues or questions. The tutors that deliver the taught courses for the CFAB/ACA are also very helpful. The ones I have had so far have given out their contact details and told us we are able to contact them any time until the exam if we are struggling with anything.
BDO offer lots of support. As discussed earlier there is a buddy system for small issues and for larger ones you can go to your assigned manager who will help you.
The salary covers most of the costs I need and goes up as you get to different stages in your contract
BDO offer a certain amount of days off each year for community volunteering. There are also lots of work socials which are fun.
Yes
BDO offers a good school leaver scheme with good qualifications whilst making you feel valued as part of the team.
During the assessment days be confident and make sure you contribute during the group exercises, make sure you don't talk over anyone and keep an eye on the time during the group exercise
