I am a Broker within the Construction team at WTW. This means we place the clients' insurance for their projects. On a day to day basis, we have regular contact with underwriters to go through the process of broking the risk, as well as servicing the contracts such as extending them or cancelling them. this is done via endorsement.
Since starting in September, I have greatly improved my people skills and adapting this based on the individual I am talking to and the situation. additionally, I have improved my written communication skills due to the high percentage of work which s doe online and via email. I have learnt how to use Excel and have developed my IT skills all round.
Since starting the programme, I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The people are extremely happy to help and supportive, and there is a big opportunity for development and to take on more responsibility. I have had a chance to meet lots of different people and been given opportunities to try new things.
On the whole, the programme is well organised. People are happy to help and quick to respond to any queries. The programme puts set dates and deadline which ensures you keep on target and there are regular calls to go through where you're at with the programme. There is also a lot of opportunities to get involved in new things.
From my team and my management, I receive excellent support and as much as I need. People are keen to help and get me involved in everything possible and offer me guidance. From the apprenticeship part of the company, the support is limited as I don't often hear from them.
The training provider arranges monthly calls where we go over anything I have which is outstanding and also any issues i may have. In addition to this, the provider also arranges regular workshops in preparation for our exams. The provider is also happy to arranges additional calls and workshops if there is anything else we're unsure of.
Due to the fact I only recently started my apprenticeship, the qualification doesn't help me in my job role day to day as of yet. Saying that, the exams I have done so far have given me a very good grounding of the industry as a whole, as well as more technical knowledge of processes.
Yes, there are many sessions and networking events to attend. These range from being more informal, such as after work networking and drinks, to more formal events like conferences and debates. In addition to this, work offers language lessons to those that want them. we also go on team events and parties.
Yes
WTW is a very supportive place to work where there are countless opportunities for development and growth. It is a company that cares about its employees and the work life balance is excellent. Everyone is very happy to help and actively looks to get younger and newer people involved however possible.
The best advice I would give is to prepare for any interviews or networking sessions you have so that you are fully prepared. ask a lot of questions and be as keen as possible to try new things. I would advise people to be outgoing and keen so that people know that you want to work there.
