My role is client facing, and involves dealing with clients on a day to day basis in order to gain an understanding of their business and the insurance cover they need. I am involved in placing their insurance programme and dealing with any queries my clients may have, including mid term adjustments.
I have developed many skills, including how to adapt my language when dealing with different people, depending on their experience, language barriers etc.. I have also developed my presentation skills, and have become comfortable presenting toc clients and colleagues alike. I have also become more proficient in Excel, and have developed my communication and team work skills.
I thoroughly enjoy my programme. The job role is the most interesting part, as that is where I gain the most experience and develop my understanding of the insurance market. Workshops can be boring and feel very long sometimes, but my skills coach is great and the support from my manager and peers makes the experience much nicer.
The timeline for my programme is very well organised, however the workshops often feel too far apart and too long. I often feel I could get through the content better and faster by teaching myself, rather than attending the workshops. The integration into the job role is very well structured and is become more tailored to each individual.
My employer is extremely supportive. My manager has been a massive supporter and advocate of mine right from the start, and has made me feel very valued and secure in asking for help. My colleagues are also very supportive, as well as other managers and the rest of the leadership team. I also have a mentor who is very supportive in regards to my development.
My training provider provides a good level of support in regards to my qualification. It sometimes doesn't suit me personally, but they are willing to listen to my concerns and hep find alternatives to support me. My skills development tutor is especially supportive and offers lots of guidance and constructive criticism in a kind and helpful way.
My qualification definitely gives me a better understanding of the theory and nuances behind the insurance I'm placing on a day to day basis. It helps me to understand why some things are done a certain way, and also gives clients and colleagues a certain level of confidence in your ability that would otherwise be provided by experience. However, often the theory I learn n my qualification doesn't apply to real life scenarios, but it is still very useful from a technical point of view.
There are lots of networking events held by the company, and often these are hosted or organised by the inclusion and diversity networks. These are a great way to learn from other people and do something fun. My team has also had some team socials since we have gone back into the office, which have been a great way to have some fun and get to know the team.
Yes
It is a great company to work for. They are very inclusive and focused on wellbeing. You are made to feel valued and progression in whatever form suits you is encouraged. They do not try to hold you back but rather recognise your strengths and weaknesses and help you achieve what you want to achieve.
Do your research before you apply or go to your interview. Be sure to read up on the qualification and familiarise yourself with the companies values. Be sure to tell them what makes you want to work for them, and have some questions prepared for your interview, like what they like about the company, what they want in an apprentice etc.
