My role involves resolving faults and testing existing lines as well as installing new lines for private and commercial residences. Part of my job is accessing the openreach network which can be underground or overhead on BT telegraph poles. My role is mostly customer facing and addressing issues they may be facing.
I have learnt many new skills regarding my role as well as health and safety. I have learnt how to safely access the underground network as well how to climb telegraph poles to access the overhead network safely. I have learned how to identify equipment which belongs to the network as well as how to work on it.
The program so far has been very thorough and educational it has taught me many new skills as well as how to manage my day to day tasks and time management. The program has been very enjoyable and relevant to my role. I have specifically enjoyed learning about the fibre network.
The program is very well structured and organised, I have been kept up to date of my progress and been shown where and how to find updates regarding my progress. There has been a lot of support available to me by trainers and instructors who have taken the time out to answer queries.
I have been so far able to make a call and discuss my needs with instructors trainers and managers who have made themselves available to discuss any issues. I have been encouraged to reach out and ask for one to one support if needed and any further training which i maybe require.
I have received a good amount of support and my trainer is always a phone call away and accessible to me. He has always been supportive and encouraged me to come forward with questions and queries. I have also been able to have one to one time with my trainer to review my progress.
the qualification i am working towards has helped to understand my role better and how to perform my tasks safely and accurately. They have allowed me to understand processes such as testing and how to test in order to find faults and then be able to resolve the said faults.
The department i work is holds regular get togethers in order to socialise and get to know the team better. We also have regular team meetings to address issues the department is facing and how to implement new procedures. I have been encouraged to attend these meetings and virtual meetings.
Yes
The program i am on has been me a great deal of knowledge about the products BT sell and excellent training regarding my role which has been extremely beneficial as I had no previous experience. The support and encouragement is second to non and has been the biggest factor as well as the potential to progress in me remaining dedicated and motivated.
To stay the course and see where the qualifications take you as there is a wide variety of roles within the business to progress into and there will always be a role that is suitable for you. Also to take things within your stride and go at your own pace as if you like me have come from a different working background you may need longer to learn.
