Here at Openreach, I have the responsibility of helping internal and external customers to provide or repair their network. This can involve sending engineers out to site to dig in boxes or duct, to book in surveys for single plot orders and to arrange traffic management and other external contractors
i have advanced my skills of talking to customers as i am regularly speaking to internal and external customers on the phone. my technology skills have also got a lot better as i am always working on my computer . I have also learnt to be more organised with files on my computer.
I enjoy the work I am doing because we have all the help we need, whether it is a document that has step by step instructions or we can go to others to get help. I am very lucky because I get along very well with the team I work in
i think training is the only area which is unstructured as we leave the training room without knowing what to do whilst building a job. consolidation is well structured as we normally are shadowing other colleagues and my manager puts in our calendars what we will be doing that day
we receive a lot of support from our employer as I haven't had many problems with them. i have always been able to get the holidays i have wanted and i have never had an issue with pay. i know that i can speak to my manager who can lead me in the right direction.
I receive a lot of support from my manager as he was once an apprentice so he can relate to what we're doing. he is currently assisting us with our preparation for our end point assessment by going through previous examples and talking through what will happen on the day of our epa
the apprenticeship is all about customer service and trying to do the best job possible. I have learnt a lot from the apprenticeship such as leadership roles and how to work better in a team. i have been used to working independently in the past so this has helped greatly
there are plenty of activities I can join through work but I have not taken the opportunity yet. on the BT intranet is where I can apply for extra-curricular activities such as the gym, charity runs and other activities
