  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In my role, i support a range of Relationship Manager's in my team. My work consist of answering customer queries relating to their bank account and also any technical issues. I manager daily excesses and will take ownership of responding to them. I also support my colleagues with any queries they have as teamwork is a key aspect of my role.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Throughout my time at the bank, i have massively developed my people skills and feel confident in forming new relationships with customers and colleagues everyday. I have learnt how to use all the bank processes and systems and am now very competant in using them, i am so confident in using them that i now teach a new apprentice how to use these systems. I have developed my organisational skills and can now plan my work day out so that i can priorities urgent tasks,

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love the apprentice programme that i am working on. i feel fully supported by NatWest's apprentice team and couldn't commend them more for how they have helped us apprentices throughout COVID. There are always activities going on that help me develop my communication and networking skills within the bank. I feel that i have learnt so much in such little time and feel very at home.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I was provided with a schedule of when missions and tasks were due in at the beginning of my programme and so fully understood all of the deadlines. I feel like the gateway period (Which i am in now) could have been organised a lot better than it has been, as i have experienced quite a lot of confusion over the past weeks over what i am expected to be doing.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • i receive so much support from my employer and i couldn't ask for more. my line manager has fully supported me throughout my apprentice journey and is always offering their help. the NatWest apprentice team has organised coffee mornings and group calls so that we can discuss our journeys and i feel this was very supportive.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have had three different coaches since starting my programme which i have found very disturbing and disruptive to my development as everyone has a different understanding of everything. I have been relayed different information each time i had a new coach and promises hadn't been followed through. I have found the past few months of my programme very confusing as i wasn't sure exactly what i was being expected to do. My new coach is a lot more supportive of me and offers time to explain things through; i didn't have this before.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I have found the learning materials such as webinars and resources on the provider hub very helpful in my development. They have taught me good customer service techniques, which i now use in my everyday role. Also, as i am consistently writing about times i have achieved the learning outcomes, i can use them as a guide in my everyday role. E.G if i am dealing with a customer, i can use the learning outcomes as a guide of things i need to do or say to achieve good customer service.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • In my team, i have been on several networking events on behalf of NatWest, these have massively developed my skills and helped me learn more about other companies. There is an apprentice council at NatWest which i am apart of, we are in the process of organising events for the 2022 year. Recent projects have included an apprentice coffee club and also a podcast.

  • 9a. Would you recommend NatWest to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend NatWest because everyone who works there are so supportive of my career and development. I love NatWest's company values and how many activities we do as a bank towards these values. I feel the apprentice team have been ever so helpful and have really played a big part in kick starting my career.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest?
  • I would say to just be yourself as having many different characters in a team is what makes it work so well. Always ask if you have any questions as your team will respect you more for putting trust into them, than just being scared. To reach out and take advantage of as many networking/ value events as possible as they really help with your development and also can be very fun!
