I provide face to face classroom training for new and existing postmasters and their staff members. I am supporting their learner journey with various courses from one of sixteen counter training offices. I would use a range of skills to help my learners appropriately by using teaching and coaching techniques.
Yes, I have learned new skills from doing this apprenticeship. I have a better and deeper understanding of the different learning techniques that I could use to better support my learners and deliver the support they require. I also think of new ways to develop training material for future content.
It reinforces the learning that I have self-developed over the years, but I can learn and try new techniques to support my learners. I also enjoy being on the programme from other companies in my cohort and listening to their journey has been through the programme.
I am currently the first cohort to use Lifetime's new learning platform, so at the moment, some teething issues need resolving, but so far, the structure of the content has made sense. I'm sure in time, It will improve for myself and future cohorts.
The support I have received from my manager and the people within the business has been outstanding. Everyone has been so supportive of my development, tasks and assignments. I'm given the correct amount of time on my apprenticeship.
In the beginning, I didn't receive that much support as I would work through the module and reach out to my line manager for help. My Lifetime trainer has recently provided me with more support by arranging monthly 1-2-1 meetings. My Lifetime trainer has created additional call support that people can jump on or listen back to if they can't attend.
The qualification through my training provider will allow me to understand better the process of learning and development and how I can use the skills and techniques to better support my learners, in the classroom and outside. Also, it will help me build a stronger working relationship with my stakeholders.
Working closely with another department, I get involved with their Postmaster engagement event. This allows me to network with other people from other departments and advertise myself on what support and help I provide from the classroom.
Yes
The level you receive from your line manager and colleague is fantastic. Also, the great opportunities to learn new skills through apprenticeship or learning from others who have a more robust knowledge or experience of a particular topic or skill.
Be honest and open. Try to be yourself and relax. Take your time to answer the questions and ask your questions too! Always think about the customer, whether it's the Postmaster or the customers they are serving or their local community.
