Pricing work and liaising with clients, putting together responses to tenders and submitting quotations. I will discuss with other members of staff within the company to ensure my prices and allowances are accurate and up to date. Deal with some variations on live projects in a quantity surveying capacity of sorts.
I had a good knowledge of computers when I arrived but the little tips and tricks picked up and/or self taught on microsoft excel really help to streamline my processes. I have learnt better how to express myself within meetings and how to manage relationships, mainly within our own company. I have developed my relationship with customers too.
It is the best thing for me, it has helped me to learn and become a senior role within my company whilst also expanding my knowledge and gaining key experience that I otherwise could have lacked. It allows my progress to be monitored and continuous discussions with my line manager allow me to see how I am getting on.
It is very well organised from my work side of things, the University time is completely set aside for me to learn and my manager will push me to do extra work either outside of working times or even in work to further my education. Outside of term time it can be slightly less structured but we work together to ensure I get the Off-the-job training I need.
My employed supports me very well, my manager in particular is pushing for me to be the best that I can be and gives me more responsibility regularly. My Managing Director supports me a lot in getting my University Degree and this was a key discussion we had at the start of my employment and throughout.
University is a little bit more difficult to get the support from, I recently had a meeting with a workplace mentor which highlighted previously unexplained avenues for support. One or Two of the units have been taught poorly with no explanation of what the marking criteria is to fully provide the answers needed.
It gives me the theory knowledge to back up what I am practicing on a day to day basis. The contract admin unit helps me at work to understand what I am looking at when we receive orders and contracts. Combining work and university is making me more well rounded.
Not so much through work, we do occasionally have sports days such as golf tournaments or a basketball team for a summer competition. We regularly engage socially outside of work due to our friendships made within work. Work have stated they wish to send me to more networking events to aid with my relationships in construction

It's a medium size business with a good turnover that feels like a small company, everyone knows each other and on the whole gets on really well. The managing director takes care and interest in everyone's personal lives and will always help and be flexible if needed. You're not just a face within the company you're treated as individuals.
Be prepared to face some stressful moments to achieve deadlines and push our projects forward but these moments don't last long and will always be appreciated by management and above. We strive to keep our reputation high within the industry and our clients know they will get respect and effort from our side to help their projects be the best they can be. We work hard but get the appreciation from it.
